The thermoplastic fender has both a functional and a design role. It is made from thermoplastic material utilizing an injection molding process.
Benefits of a thermoplastic fender as compared to sheet metal include:
Weight savings
Corrosion prevention
Greater design flexibility
Greater resistance to minor damage
Significantly lower tool costs
The following types of material are typically employed:
TPO/EMPP
PC-Blends
PA-Blends
REHAU can supply the thermoplastic fender as a(n):
Unpainted conductive part (suitable for in-line or on-line painting)
Unpainted primer-coated conductive part (suitable for in-line or on-line painting)
Painted in-body-color matching the vehicle color
Structural or retaining parts may be fitted to the fender by means of adhesive bonding or welding (for uses such as for mounting purposes).
"Fender module" - (Expanding a fender to include the integration of items such as headlamps and water reservoirs before the module leaves the REHAU facility).
