Prize-Winning Tambour Door System from REHAU Absorbs Sound Effectively

With the RAUVOLET Acoustic Line of sound absorbing tambour doors, REHAU once again demonstrates its expertise as a development partner for the furniture industry. This workplace innovation combines outstanding functionality and modern design with high-quality, ground-breaking materials. In modern office settings with their generous proportions and open layouts, constant background noise that effects worker concentration is very common. This noise comes from technical equipment such as copiers and printers as well as telephone conversations. Sound absorbers for interior design currently include solutions for ceilings, walls and floors, specialized plasters and furniture applications. The goal of acoustic room design is an optimal combination of the different absorption possibilities at the individual workstations across the entire frequency range. The RAUVOLET Acoustic Line of sound absorbing cabinet tambour door systems achieves special significance as a broadband absorber which is particularly effective in the lower frequency range. A further strength of the acoustic line lies in the flexibility of its application and structure. Whether it is integrated into the furnishings as cabinet tambour doors or used as separating walls, the elements can be positioned at the source of the noise for the most direct absorption. The measured degree of absorption of 0.75 αW and 0.85 αW lies well above that of comparable solutions. REHAU first introduced its RAUVOLET Acoustic Line to the public at Interzum 2005. Initially, the unusual design itself was the main attraction. Receipt of the "Interzum Award" for high product quality confirmed not only the system's exceptional visual impact, but also rewarded its specific effect. In addition to REHAU's own internal "Innovation Prize 2005," the system was also honored with the "Design Plus" award from one of the most successful competitions dealing with every aspect related to design and materials. The RAUVOLET Acoustic Line also brought the company into the winner’s circle of the world’s largest design competition: the "Red Dot Award." The cabinet tambour door system's success story continues with its nomination for the 2007 German Design Prize. The unique aspect of this prize is that companies may not submit their own entries, but instead, must be nominated by the Economic Ministry and Senators of the individual German states or by the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology. This prize is also the only official award presented by the Federal Republic to promote design. REHAU has established itself as the leading manufacturer and supplier of polymer-based solutions for a wide variety of applications in the furniture industry. Customers associate features such as quality, expertise in material, surface treatment and processing as well as commitment to innovation with the REHAU brand. Under the motto, "Design for Furniture," REHAU develops, manufactures and distributes functional and sophisticated surfaces as well as coordinated systems for living and working environments such as offices, kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms.
